Indexed Universal Life Insurance

Permanent life insurance that combines a death benefit with index-linked cash value growth and a 0% floor.

Growth + Protection in One Policy

Indexed Universal Life (IUL) insurance is a type of permanent life insurance that offers both a death benefit and a cash value component that grows based on the performance of a market index — typically the S&P 500 — with a guaranteed floor of 0%.

This means your cash value can grow when the market goes up, but it can never decrease due to market downturns. You get the upside potential of market participation with the downside protection of insurance.

Beyond the death benefit and cash value growth, many modern IUL policies include living benefit riders that allow you to access a portion of the death benefit if you're diagnosed with a critical, chronic, or terminal illness — providing financial protection during your lifetime as well.

What IUL Offers

Death Benefit Protection

Provides a tax-free death benefit to your beneficiaries — the core purpose of any life insurance policy.

Index-Linked Growth

Cash value grows based on a market index (like the S&P 500) with a floor of 0% — you participate in gains but are protected from losses.

Living Benefits

Many IUL policies include accelerated benefit riders that allow access to the death benefit if you're diagnosed with a critical, chronic, or terminal illness.

IUL as a Retirement Strategy

One of the most powerful uses of IUL is as a supplemental retirement income vehicle. Because withdrawals are structured as loans against the cash value, they are generally tax-free and do not count as income for purposes of Social Security taxation or Medicare IRMAA surcharges.

  • Tax-free retirement income via policy loans
  • No contribution limits (unlike 401k/IRA)
  • Does not affect Social Security taxation
  • Does not trigger Medicare IRMAA surcharges
  • Flexible premium payments
